DWV Insect Proof Vent Cowl with Mesh 80mm is a PVC-U fitting used to terminate nominal 80mm PVC DWV vent pipe while allowing ventilation and restricting entry by insects.
The cowl has ventilation openings around its upper section with a wire mesh barrier behind them. The openings allow air to move through the vent, while the mesh provides a finer physical barrier to restrict mosquitoes and other insects from entering the pipe.
The 80mm female socket fits over nominal 80mm PVC DWV pipe, which has an approximately 82mm outside diameter. It is joined using PVC priming fluid and suitable non-pressure PVC solvent cement. This is known as a solvent weld joint, or SWJ.
