The bend has one 40mm female socket and one 40mm pipe-size spigot. The female socket fits over 40mm PVC DWV pipe with an approximately 43mm outside diameter, while the pipe-size spigot fits into the socket of another matching 40mm fitting.

The connections are joined using PVC priming fluid and suitable non-pressure PVC solvent cement. This joining method is known as a solvent weld joint, or SWJ.

The stated 40mm size is nominal and does not equal the measured pipe outside diameter.

PVC DWV pipe and fittings are suitable for use in stormwater, sewerage, wastewater, vent, and other non-pressure applications.
