Red PVC priming fluid in a 500ml container prepares pipe ends and fitting sockets for solvent-welded plumbing and irrigation joints. It is applied to the outside of the pipe end and inside of the socket, where the two surfaces will meet.
The solvent action cleans and degreases the PVC, removes its glossy surface glaze and softens the material. This allows the solvent cement to penetrate the surface rather than sit over contamination or an untreated glaze.
Solvent cement then softens and dissolves the mating surfaces further. Once assembled, the pipe and fitting surfaces bond together as the joint cures. Priming is the surface-preparation step; the cement provides the joint-forming action.
The red colour leaves a visible mark showing where the primer has been applied.
The container includes a brush. Iplex specifies wiping primer onto the joint surfaces with a clean, lint-free cloth; brushing alone does not remove grease and dirt.
Prime and cement one joint at a time, following the selected cement and pipe-system instructions. The holding and curing intervals apply to the cemented joint; primer is the surface-preparation step.
