RAIN BIRD 5000 PLUS 100MM (4") GEAR DRIVE POP-UP SPRINKLER

Rain Bird 5000 PLUS 100mm pop-up sprinkler for lawn and commercial turf irrigation. Rain Curtain nozzles produce large droplets to help resist wind drift, with close-in watering to cover the ground near the sprinkler. A heavy-duty case and wiper seal help protect the mechanism from debris, while PLUS flow shutoff lets you service one sprinkler without stopping the whole zone. The SAM check valve helps reduce drainage from lower heads after watering.

✓ Inlet: 20mm (3/4") female thread
✓ Coverage: 7.6–15.2 metre radius across the supplied nozzle options
✓ Spray Pattern: Adjustable 40°–360°
✓ Operating Pressure: 170–450 kPa
✓ Flow: 3.0–36.6 L/min across nozzle and pressure options
✓ Pop-Up Height: 100mm (4") nominal

Rain Bird 5000 Series Sprinkler User Guide

Rain Bird 5000 PLUS gear drive sprinkler for lawn and commercial turf irrigation. Its adjustable rotating stream waters a part circle or full circle, with standard and low-angle nozzles supplied to suit different distances and flow requirements.

Rain Curtain nozzles produce large droplets that help resist wind drift and distribute water across the throw. Close-in watering helps cover the ground near the sprinkler, reducing dry patches around the head.

The heavy-duty plastic case protects the working parts, while the tapered stem and wiper seal help keep debris out as the sprinkler rises and retracts. A self-flushing arc adjustment port clears dirt from the adjustment slot during operation.

The supplied nozzles cover a 7.6–15.2 metre radius across the 170–450 kPa operating pressure range. Radius is the distance from the sprinkler to the outer edge of the watering pattern. Eight standard nozzles produce a 25° stream, while four low-angle nozzles produce a lower 10° stream.

The spray arc adjusts from 40° to 360° using a flat-blade screwdriver. The top adjustment screw lets you shorten the watering distance by up to 25%. The PLUS flow shutoff lets you stop water at the individual sprinkler for nozzle changes and servicing while the rest of the zone continues watering. Choose the nozzle for both watering distance and arc so sprinklers on the same zone apply water at similar rates.

The SAM check valve reduces drainage through lower sprinklers after watering, holding back at least 2.13 metres of elevation.

This 4-inch model has a plastic riser, a 20mm (3/4") female inlet and a retracted body height of 185mm. Supplied with eight standard and four low-angle nozzles.

Warranty: Five-year Rain Bird trade warranty.

✓ Product Type and Application
Rain Bird 5004 PLUS PC gear drive sprinkler for lawn and commercial turf irrigation.
Plastic body and riser; individual rotor flow shutoff.

✓ Dimensions and Connection
20mm (3/4") female inlet.
Heavy-duty plastic case and plastic riser, with a rubber cover.
Pop-up height: 100mm (4") nominal; 102mm from the case cover to the nozzle.
Overall body height when retracted: 185mm.
Exposed top diameter: 41mm.

✓ Coverage and Spray Pattern
Radius: 7.6–15.2 metres across the supplied nozzle options and operating pressures, before radius reduction.
Radius is the distance from the sprinkler to the outer edge of the watering pattern.
Spray arc: Adjustable 40°–360°. This PC model reverses direction at its arc limits, including when set to 360°.

✓ Pressure & Flow
Operating pressure: 170–450 kPa.
Flow range: 3.0–36.6 L/min across nozzle and pressure options.
See ‘Precipitation Rate’ below for how the arc setting affects the amount of water applied across the area.

✓ Nozzles and Performance
Eight standard Rain Curtain nozzles: 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0, 6.0 and 8.0.
Four low-angle nozzles: 1.0 LA, 1.5 LA, 2.0 LA and 3.0 LA.
Standard trajectory: 25°. Low-angle trajectory: 10°.

Standard-pressure 5000 and plastic 5000 PLUS; standard and low-angle nozzles.
Example comparison at 300 kPa, before radius reduction:
1.5 nozzle: 10.6 metre radius; 6 L/min.
2.0 nozzle: 11.2 metre radius; 7.8 L/min.
2.5 nozzle: 11.3 metre radius; 9.6 L/min.
3.0 nozzle: 12.1 metre radius; 11.4 L/min.
4.0 nozzle: 12.7 metre radius; 15 L/min.
5.0 nozzle: 13.5 metre radius; 18.6 L/min.
6.0 nozzle: 13.4 metre radius; 22.2 L/min.
8.0 nozzle: 13.4 metre radius; 30 L/min.
1.0 LA nozzle: 8.8 metre radius; 3.6 L/min.
1.5 LA nozzle: 9.4 metre radius; 6 L/min.
2.0 LA nozzle: 9.7 metre radius; 7.8 L/min.
3.0 LA nozzle: 10.6 metre radius; 11.4 L/min.

✓ Radius Reduction
Turn the top nozzle-retaining adjustment screw clockwise with a flat-blade screwdriver to reduce the watering distance by up to 25%.

✓ Arc Adjustment
Set the spray arc from the top with a flat-blade screwdriver. The slip clutch allows the left-hand edge of the watering pattern to be repositioned.

✓ Sprinkler Spacing
Spacing is the distance between neighbouring sprinklers.
For head-to-head coverage, each sprinkler throws water far enough to reach the next sprinkler. This overlap helps water the area between them evenly.
Use the actual watering distance after adjustment when planning the spacing.
A square layout places sprinklers on a square grid. A triangular layout uses staggered rows.

✓ Precipitation Rate
Precipitation rate describes how quickly water is applied across the area, measured in millimetres per hour.
For example, with the 3.0 standard nozzle at 300 kPa, a 180° half-circle arc and sprinklers spaced 12.1 metres apart:
Square layout: 9 mm/hour.
Triangular layout: 11 mm/hour.
At the same pressure, the same nozzle uses essentially the same flow whatever the arc setting. A smaller arc concentrates that water over a smaller area.
Different nozzle sizes can help balance watering between smaller and larger arcs, but they also change the watering distance. Choose nozzles that maintain head-to-head coverage; changing nozzle size alone may not suit an existing layout.
Where suitable nozzle combinations cannot provide similar watering rates, put sprinklers with different watering rates on separate zones so their run times can be set independently.

✓ Flow Shutoff and Servicing
PLUS flow control turns water on or off at the individual sprinkler.
The self-flushing arc adjustment port clears debris from the adjustment slot.
The tapered stem and triple-blade wiper seal help protect the internal mechanism from debris.

✓ Check Valve
Seal-A-Matic (SAM) holds back at least 2.13 metres of elevation to reduce low-head drainage.

✓ Warranty
Five-year Rain Bird trade warranty.
