Both sockets fit over their matching PVC pressure pipe and are joined using PVC priming fluid and pressure-rated solvent cement. This joining method is known as a solvent weld joint, or SWJ.

Manufactured from rigid PVC-U, the reducing coupling is suited to commercial and agricultural irrigation, rural water supply, large pump systems, pool and spa equipment, general water transfer and compatible large-diameter PVC pressure pipework.
