Both sockets fit over their matching PVC pressure pipe and are joined using PVC priming fluid and pressure-rated solvent cement. This joining method is known as a solvent weld joint, or SWJ.

Manufactured from rigid PVC-U, the reducing coupling is suited to residential, commercial and agricultural irrigation, garden and landscape watering, domestic and rural water supply, pump systems, pool and spa equipment, general water transfer and compatible PVC pressure pipework.
