PVC pressure pipe for irrigation, water supply and general water transfer. This range covers nominal sizes from 15mm to 300mm in Class 9, Class 12 and Class 18, with the available classes varying by size.

Manufactured from rigid, unplasticised PVC (PVC-U) to AS/NZS 1477. The smooth internal surface helps limit friction losses. Choose the pipe size to suit the required flow, pipe run and available pressure.

Nominal size is the name used to identify the pipe and matching fittings; it does not state the exact inside or outside diameter. For example, a nominal 50mm pressure pipe has an approximate outside diameter of 60.4mm. For a given nominal size, the outside diameter remains the same across pressure classes, while a thicker wall reduces the internal diameter.

Class 9, Class 12 and Class 18 are also called PN9, PN12 and PN18. Their nominal working pressure ratings at 20°C are 900kPa, 1200kPa and 1800kPa respectively. Allowable working pressure reduces above 20°C. Select the class to suit the system’s working pressure and pressure surges, and use fittings with a suitable pressure rating.

The 155mm pipe is a specialised borecasing size used to line water bores. Its approximate outside diameter is 168.2mm, so it requires fittings matched to that diameter. Standard 150mm pressure fittings do not fit.

Select the jointing method and fittings to suit the pipe supplied. Solvent weld joints use priming fluid and pressure-rated solvent cement; Type P is used for standard interference-fit pressure joints. Rubber ring joints use the specified sealing ring and lubricant. Follow the manufacturer’s jointing instructions, including curing times for solvent weld joints, before pressurising.

For buried installations, provide suitable bedding and backfill to support the pipe and protect it from sharp stones. Above ground, use suitable supports and allow for expansion and contraction as the pipe temperature changes. Follow the manufacturer’s installation guide for the site conditions.
