Brass Y strainers remove larger particles from water before it reaches downstream equipment. A stainless steel screen sits inside the angled branch of the body, allowing the screen to be inspected and cleaned through the cap. Female threaded connections are available in 15mm-50mm sizes, with different screen openings for the smaller and larger sizes.
The 15mm, 20mm and 25mm models use a 350-micron screen; the 32mm, 40mm and 50mm models use a 500-micron screen. A smaller micron value means a smaller screen opening. The strainer is a particle filter rather than a shutoff or non-return valve.
Install with access to the strainer cap and follow the direction of flow marked on the body. Clean the screen as required by the water quality and any increase in pressure loss.
