Accumulator tanks store air and water downstream from the pump to improve the overall operation of the system. The contained air absorbs pressure fluctuations, smoothing the flow and reducing noise. Accumulators allow pumps to reach shut-off pressure smoothly and minimise on/off cycles (increasing the expected lifespan of the pump).
